where have all the hitchkiker's gone (except for the one i saw last week)? while i agree, it is probably not the safest thing to do, it is probably not that much less safe then taking a cab. where from then until now did we become so closed off? we do not interact with strangers--in bow ties or in garbage bags.

there is something to be said for reducing your life to the essentials, moving, and finding a twenty hour a week job that can support you--even if it is only to read books in an apartment the size of a shoebox.
